PESE Topic of the Month is Facilitation of Social Development. The Facilitation of Social Skills section of PESE Rock Your Classroom provides helpful resources for developing strategies for implementing instruction and providing supports that address social skills and emotional competencies throughout the school day. 

Remember, your PESE Regional Facilitators and staff are available to assist you as you move forward to begin a year of learning opportunities for the students in your classrooms. 

The section on Facilitation of Social Skills focuses on the following: 

• A structured system ensures students learn and practice positive behavior expectations through direct instruction in social skills and replacement behaviors.
• Additional support is provided for those with behavioral or social challenges.
• Changes in activities are thoughtfully planned, taught and supported throughout the day, while students are encouraged and guided to make choices and take initiative.
• Teachers foster a nurturing, respectful environment that promotes growth and positive interactions.
